Realization through those Gucci Shades

A rich coffee in my hand, an omega in my wrist, Jimmy Cho resting beneath my feet and a hidesign by my side, I lay there in the shades of Gucci looking into the world in low contrast, and know what, I seem contented!! Yes, I am in fact I was. But now? I am in awe! Awe of realization? Awe of harsh truth? Awe of utter reality it is. All I was in well sheltered cocoon of ignorance that I now see what it is to view the world without my Gucci shade. I thought my duty to myself was the ulterior thing that my life demanded but there are things way beyond my star studded dictionary of happiness and contentment.

When I was a little girl, I saw only the dew on the edge of the thorns, felt the serenity after a thunder-storm and sensed the change as leaves fall by. Consider it a blessing or a curse, I could feel only the goodness around me and stay ignorant to echoes of melancholy. Whatever colours I saw through my eyes were doubled and produced a play of rainbows infront of me. So engrossed was I into this good seeing of the surroundings that I somewhere lost myself to the quagmire of self-obsession and self-contentment. I was lost in ME! Slowing from my 365 summer days, I was exposed to the harsh winters. And only then I started realising the world is not how I always have perceived to be the world of goodies and no baddies. Times have changed, so have people and their thoughts. It is not like the same old Hazarika Borta  (an Assamese word for uncle)  stopping by to give an orange from his sac or like Saikia  Khuri (an Assamese word for aunt) calling out from her porch to tease me while I was busy making my sand-house. Gone are those days of care and love one showed for one another. With the evolution of man himself, came the evolution of everything around and it has been showing its impact on its course of flow. It is now being called poky if a neighbour asks his next neighbour how he is, congratulates him on his promotion or even sympathizes him at his loss. Had Louis Armstrong been alive today, he would have sung, “What a pathetic world....”!!!! Perhaps even William Henry Davis realised it long back, when he said it in his poem, “We have no time to stand and stare” I would call this evolution the evolution of greed in man. The greed in man has lead to the invention of engine, sent manned and unmanned mission to outer space, and the quest to earn the bits of paper, which we call as the monetary treasure.  The more this treasure, the more secure are we in today’s rising economy of petrol hikes and frequent blackouts. It is an achievement if we can celebrate well with our friends in 3 star paying no heed to those kids who go to sleep without a morsel for days. We are disinterested in politics because we feel it is corrupt and we do not want to waste our time in discussing which minister took what and what went wrong. But to raise a simple thought, are we not a part of the government? The constitution has clearly said, it is a government by the people, of the people and for the people but I wonder how many of us are aware of who the power minister is or who the defence minister is. If this is the condition of the negligence of the youth, how are we going to prosper and change the system that has been going wrong throughout the way? There have been incidences of national security and threat, but how many of us are really worrying about the threat posed on us. We are so well studded in our comfort zones of Honda City, Armani and ipad, that we feel no friction of such threats.

I too till yesterday was in my Gucci and Hidesign by my side, but now what has dawned on me is hard to realise and would go late if unrealised. It is high that that we, the mango people of today’s world come out and raise our voice in matters of politics, governance, economy, national security and poverty. If unrealised, it would soon be trend of accepting faults and there would be no scope of raising our voice for the things we believe in is true and the entire concept of the formation of the government as stated in the Constitution of India would go bizarre.
